About

I am starting to see an unavoidable flaw with this About page: it needs to be updated all the time! So, rather than expound on what I have been up to lately (that is what my Story Time posts are for), I’ll cut this page down to the basics. A veritable curriculum vitae, if you will, with a list summarizing my current existence.

My name is Kelsey. I was born in March of ’91 in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. I have lived in cities across Canada. My list currently includes: (Ontario) North Bay, Nepean, Russell, (Nova Scotia) Waverley, (Northwest Territories) Inuvik, (Ontario again) Woodview, Kitchener-Waterloo, (Royal Caribbean Cruise ship) Enchantment of the Seas with home port Miami, Florida, Vision of the Seas with home port Galveston, TX, (Alberta) Banff, and (Ontario again) Lakefield, again, and Kitchener-Waterloo, again.

I have one younger sister, Kassandra, and a dog, Nanuk.

I went to the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama with a minor in Italian Studies. I specialized in stage management and technical theatre.

I have a post-graduate certificate in Events Management from Conestoga College.

My post-graduate career includes working as a sales associate at Payless ShoeSource, a Child Supervisor at Drayton Entertainment, a Cruise Programs Administrator with Royal Caribbean, and a Production Administrative Assistant and Production Coordinator at Banff Centre for Art and Creativity.

My favourite books include the All Souls Trilogy and the Throne of Glass series. I am an avid reader of historical and fantasy fiction.

My favourite TV series’ include Schitt’s Creek, Bones, New Girl, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Outlander, to list a few.

I couldn’t tell you what my favourite movies are, but I love a lot in the romance, action adventure, Disney (duh!), period drama, and fantasy / sci-fi genres. I’m one of those people who, if I like the movie, I will watch it again and again. Some people like a movie and then never watch it again. That is not me. I grew up in a household without cable TV and evenings and weekends were spent re-watching a movie from our vast VHS and DVD collection.

I used to write fanfiction when I was younger. As lover of the Harry Potter series, I would spend hours creating stories with JK Rowling’s beloved characters. Now I like to create my own stories. I’m not very long-winded, having spent years editing down my writing in essays and work emails. I like one-shots or short stories. A window into a world, characters, and stories that provides a brief escape from the real world, not dissimilar to the half-hour episodes of my favourite TV shows.

The reality of writing is to write what you know. And what could I know better than my life and the characters who populate my real world? That isn’t to say I don’t often delve into the make-believe and create my own characters and worlds. My partner shares my passion for fantasy fiction, is a voracious reader and an avid D&D player, so together we postulate on many stories in many worlds. There may come a day when I share those stories in snippets as I find my creative voice. But for now I will share tales of my life; recipes I enjoy, books I like reading, and the day-to-day goings on of my life.

Thank you for joining me here and please connect with me if you’d like to discuss my stories or interests. Come and wander through life with me!
