I couldn’t tell you how long we’ve owned this fridge. My family has lived back in Ontario now for 18 years and so I’d hazard a guess that’s how old this fridge has been around. It’s old enough to vote now. Since 2002 my family base has changed only once and only by about 30 kilometres. But my family unit has spread out so much since then.
Home: A Series – Part 3
I was twelve when we moved away from Inuvik and that now bright red house. I celebrated my twelfth birthday on the road, in Grand Prairie, Alberta. Both my parents’ vehicles broke down on the way – a busted water pump and a broken drive belt. We used walkie talkies to communicate since it was still a pre-cell phone era. But I can say that I love driving across Canada. Having done it many times now, it’s the best way to see this country and its varying vistas, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to road trip across Canada.
Home: A Series – Part 2
There is one home in my long list of homes that deserves more than a passing mention and may very well get a short story of its own in the near future. It is a place dear to many in my family and extended family. My family cottage, on my Dad’s side, was nestled in … Continue reading Home: A Series – Part 2
Home: A Series – Part 1
Home. It means a lot of things to a lot of people. Right now, being home is important as a way to protect others and preventing the spread of COVID-19. With that in mind, I thought I would reflect on my home and the homes I have had in the last twenty-nine years of my life. I am grateful to have had many, giving me opportunities to see many places across the country and across the world, if you can believe it (another perk of working for Royal Caribbean International and having your address be a cruise ship).
What Did I Do Today?: Biking Along Lake Ontario
I do love the water. I am more of a water baby than a fire baby, despite what my zodiac sign would have you believe. And while I wasn’t on the water today, I got close. I may not be a mountain person but looking out over the calm of Lake Ontario, craziness of the world aside, gave me such a sense of peace and I have never felt more at home. I’m really going to enjoy spending more time by the lake this summer.
Snapshot: The Last Two Years…
I moved to Banff, Alberta, Canada for a job at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity. And then I lost said job amid the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently sweeping the globe. To say the last 8 weeks have been a whirlwind of emotion is an understatement. But more on that, unemployment, and being in a long-distance international relationship in coming blog posts.
Snapshot: Vision of the Seas
Vision of the Seas is a Vision Class ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. She is 20 years old and while there are kinks in her operation due to her age, I nevertheless feel blessed to have been a part of her crew. Having regained my land-legs after being away for 8 months, the notes … Continue reading Snapshot: Vision of the Seas
Adventures in Cooking: Spaghetti Squash & Ground Turkey
FOOD! My first food post! I love food. Since moving out on my own, I have, of course, had to become a little more resourceful with the way I eat, mostly in regard to that one complex question that ruins relationships: WHAT DO I WANT TO EAT? Truly, I saw something the other day that stated, "The … Continue reading Adventures in Cooking: Spaghetti Squash & Ground Turkey
An Afternoon Adventure
And so, in an effort to keep my spirits up and get myself out of the house, I had a very eventful couple of days - first visiting my parents in Whitby for Mother's Day for lunch and today visiting my good friend Erik in Hamilton, Ontario.
